Two Motor Accidents Claims Tribunals have been constituted under Motor Vehicles Act, one at Jammu and other at Srinagar for giving compensation to persons who die or suffer permanent disability due to motor accidents.
During the year 2009-10, a total of 2812 cases were disposed of by MACT, Jammu in which a compensation of Rs. 58,18,56,105/- have been awarded to the victims and Rs. 25,98,51,193/- have been disbursed.
During the year 2009-10, a total of 1321 cases were filed out of which 843 cases were disposed of by MACT, Srinagar in which a compensation of Rs. 15,79,53,985/- have been awarded to the victims and Rs. 5,22,21,739/- have been disbursed.
